12:08 pm - Sooo, College?
So I arrived alright, unpacked, checked in, and left. Spent my last shabbos at home, and then attended none other than my parent's wedding. They never got married under a chuppah, so they figured their 24th anniversary was as good as any other time. So now I'm back in Hartford, and ready to go. And the train ride isn't even that long.

Today, I will quote part of Franz Kafka's "Reflections on Sin, Pain, Hope and The True Way"

12: LIke a road in autumn: Hardly is it swept clean before it is covered again with dead leaves.

13: A cage went in search of a bird

103: "But then he returned to his work as if nothing had happened." That is a saying which sounds familiar to us from an indefinite number of old tales, though in fact it perhaps occurs in none.

Who knew the birds started chirping at 4? That's outta control.

either way, I'm gone for this week as previously stated. Every last one of you is welcome to attend my graduation, meet some of my Waldorf friends if you're not from there, and if you are from the 'dorf, you'll be there anyway. 10:30AM Friday, June 17th.

Oh, and in a nice sense of timing, the construction stopped inside my house. They don't come here anymore, it's done. However, that hole in the backyard is still being fixed.

5:51 pm - I shaved! and sorry about the picture sizes, I was too lazy to crop them
It's already Wednesday, but it was a great weekend nonetheless. I spent shabbos till Sunday morning at Kutz for the Meitav Seminar, which was fantastic, I got to see good people, and got a nice sweatshirt out of the deal. And I shaved for shabbos, on lag b'omer, so the pictures of the process are at the bottom.
I then took a bus at 7am back home, and then a train to school for play rehearsal, which by the way, our first performance for an audience is tomorrow, at 7:30 or 8pm, I forget. If you ask, I can find out. Also, everyone is welcome at the Sunday evening performance which is at 8pm for sure.

Then, Sunday night, spur of the moment EIE get together, and I got to see James (from ATL, who was in NY for a Dutch wedding, I didn't quite understand), Juliet, Aaron Greenberg  )(who as weinkrantz ([info]hey_becca) stated at one point in time, has very sexy nipple rings, what a man), Dani, Katowitz, Stuckey, Gabby, and a bunch of other people, including, very randomly, at the hookah bar, Dave Alter, my old neighbor who I was like best friends with from about 4th grade until I moved.

and a year ago, this morning, I picked up my sister from the airport, and saw the rest of EIE arrive at JFK.

And Please Comment on which amount of facial hair ) feel looks best on me.
Relatively full beard, goatee and sideburns, goatee without sideburns, mustache and soul patch, mexican 'stache, half 'stache (only a joke, I could never keep it) or a shadow (with my favorite sunglasses, which are fully reflective, but you can't really see it), because I didn't have a good clean shot

on Monday, after 7 hours of play rehearsal, I went to my second barbecue of the weekend. The first being my Rabbi's, which I hit the tail end of, just to eat, and then left. However, Sam's barbecue was of a much higher quality, mostly because I connect with everyone there, oh, and because I love Sam, cause she's awesome. And pretty good at Taboo, which by the way, is by far one of the greatest games ever. (even better than yes, euchre).

Today, I was able to leave school at something really close to the time it ends at, which has been uncommon these past few days. I then managed to move my Hartford orientation from this weekend to August, cleared going up for only shabbos with Meitav, meaning I'll be at Kutz this Shabbos, which is exciting. It's always good to see those people.

Then, I went to the doctor. Not just any doctor, but the sleep doctor. I have the results from the test and he said that although I don't have sleep apnea. I also don't not have it. I wake up without noticing it about 3 or 4 times an hour, closer to 4. Which means that I never really get a full nights sleep, and when I'm congested, it's more interruptions and less sleep, which if you know me, is more often than not. And the only real cure is either a weird bite plate kinda thing to sleep with, or something particularly similar to removing my tonsils, so that i have a wider throat to breathe through at night. It's kinda what I was expecting them to say, and on the positive side, at least it can be fixed, and at least all those times I fell asleep in the middle of any given activity (you name it, I fell asleep during it), it wasn't my fault.

Luckily, when I arrived home, there were things to take pictures of. Specifically, the hole we're digging ) in the backyard to store all the bodies. And my neatly decorated lawn. )

Oh, and normally, The Onion has pretty good articles, which are decently humorous. However, this week, one of the main articles had my crying, seriously. I would highly suggest reading the entire article
Investigators Blame Stupidity In Area Death
But to quote: "A 25-page accident report released to the press Tuesday contained such details as "leg hooked through steering wheel so driver could use both hands to light cigarette,""handgun case slid under brake pedal, preventing it from being adequately engaged," and "carotid artery lacerated by bottle-opener bolted to dashboard.""

Seriously, it's a good article, read it.

Yesterday was a fantastic day, and I'm the only person on Long Island who knows why.

I went to the doctor today. I was there for an hour and a half, and only saw someone for less than 15 minutes. Way too unnecessary for a guy to tell me i have sinusitis, and fill out a prescription.
Earlier in the day, we had finished our only academic class for the day before 9.45am that was a good deal. The only other remotely academic class we had was Projective Geometry, taught by the class' former lower school teacher. It's probably the most Waldorfian class I've ever taken. The teacher talks in rhythm, and really slowly, and asks us the questions, like how we feel about what we're learning. Then again, any class in which the laws of the mathematical diagrams involve all lines meeting at the point of infinity. Specifically, parallel lines meet infinitely far away, and similarly, the same point is reflected infinitely far away on the opposite side. I can explain it to you in person if you ask, but in writing, it'll never really happen. Then again, the class it replaced (modern physics) for the day was a class in which we're required to stare at the sun, or look at a light bulb through a fish tank, and tell him what color it is.

As for this weekend, I think this is my second to last week of Prozdor ever, which is kinda funny, I mean, it shows some kind of devotion if I get to classes a block from Harlem every sunday morning, for 3 hours. Whatever.

and of highest import: Friday is my last full day of class. Next week we have only Wood Carving and our main lesson, Wholeness and Modern Physics (see above) and play rehearsal till June 5th. 2 weeks of no school really, and then I graduate June 17th. Sounds like a good deal to me.

So, last you heard of me, I was wired in to the machine, but not to worry. I was there voluntarily. It was a sleep clinic, and I was testing to see if I have sleep apnea, we'll see how it goes, there's still time before I get the results. Also, if you look, those things that look like suction cups are actually this putty stuff, and kinda gross. And the hose in my nostrils is to monitor my breathing, not to provide oxygen.

On an entirely unrelated note, exactly 1 year ago, I took the SATs on an average Sunday morning in Tel Aviv. It was sunny, Claire was studying really hardcore, and we were making fun of her, I felt confident in my process, and we went back to classes that afternoon. About 5 hours after I finished testing, I got caught in probably the most stressing situation of my life, followed by 4 days of absolute depression in which I pretty much didn't eat, and resulting in my removal from the program 3 days later. That sucked. I was the only kid kicked out that semester. A week later, 3 kids were caught in a weird situation past curfew, smoking, in a restricted area, and were put on house arrest for 2 weeks, and then were free. This semester, I believe 4 or 5 kids have been expelled, by half way through the program, and it was just drugs for them, at least for me it was my 4th incident, I don't feel as stupid in the long run.

School is coming to a close, the physics/calculus kids are going to Six Flags on Friday, and you would think that the kids in the regular math/other science classes would be going to a similar trip, or nowhere at all, however, the Book Binding Class is being taken to the Folk Art Museum (read: antiquing). I don't get it, but at least it's one less day of school, making 8 full days of classes left. 13 days of main lesson, and I believe roughly 47 days between now and graduation. That sounds like a good deal if i've heard one.
Oh, and today, in Wholeness and Modern Physics, our new main lesson block, our homework was to stare at the sun, (be careful) and make a sketch. Thank. God.

sorry about the last post, wrong journal, i feel kinda funny about that

anyway, good weekend so far, spent shabbos at the Cohen's and fell asleep on the couch, and then got home at like 7:15, made full plans, and got ready and still made the train perfectly, but just barely.
it was good to see everyone, but everyone went home early, so it wasn't for that long. then gabby and i went back up to columbia and we went to a persian new years party, good times, bad persian techno, i guess, but it was fun, because of the sillyness of it. then slept in the JTS dorm, and got to class on time sunday morning (not even 5 full hours of sleep isn't so bad, if you wake up at 8:45) then called ali and met her at penn, chilled, had a good time, and we went shopping downtown, eventually met my sister, lunch, more shopping, new pair of sunglasses, more shopping, went home. by shopping, i mean window shopping.

and i finally got another hard drive, it's nice, it works, i'm excited.

10:23 pm - Indian, Indian, What did you die for?
today actually was a good day. i mean, nothing was really accomplished in school, but the main lesson test was pretty easy, and it was really beautiful outside. like no jacket weather, maybe even tshirt weather. so, today during lunch, and then later after class meeting, i did something that i'm pretty sure that most of you did not do. i flew a kite. and let me tell you, it's really a very nice thing to do on a clear spring day. so the lack of class today, together with the weather, made it very nice. then i got home and realized that i have enough work to kill me. my project is going nowhere, and i still hate french, so that homework always goes slowly. it's painful. the positive side would be, i only need to just get it all done by thursday, because then i have a week and a day off, and lots of people are gonna be around, and i'm gonna see them all. without a doubt.

the house is finally coming together. as of this moment. we have a finished downstairs, complete with all the doors and doorknobs it needs, with exception of the glass wall separating the office from the den. the living room is fully painted, and the dining room only has a bit more. all the bedrooms and bathrooms are done, except my parents bedroom, and my closet doesn't have a doorknob. but the rest of the house does. the kitchen starts construction next week i think. and then the backyard in a week or two. life is kinda crazy like that. i've been trapped in my room almost, cause everything has been nonexistent, or unusable, like having all of the living room furniture in the dining room. but life is good now.

the weekend was good, i had a restful shabbos, and then unexpectedly went into the city and chilled with some good people, and had some good cake from veniero's. i took the train in, which i hadn't done in a bit. and it's so much more preferable to driving.

now i have to work on this history of architecture project, i have to make something that's 18 sq ft that describes the sagrada familia (which was my own building choice) and i don't really know where to start. i'm also allowed to describe goudi some bit, which is good. for reference, the front and original part is the darker stone that flows more, and the back is the more angular, lighter color stone. although technically a church, and over 100 years in the making, i don't think it has ever been used for a service.

i also found this really interesting book in my house called NASSAU suburbia, USA and it's kinda weird, all about the rise of long island, and suburbia, cause this is the first suburban county, ever and all. and i started a good book too. The Soul of New Machine. about the rise of the 32 bit computer from the developer's view in the late 70s. it's kinda nerdy i guess, but mostly about the strive to the top, less about the computer.

9:43 pm - eie memory # 746, 1598
i think it was like the third shabbos, maybe the second; all i know is that it was early in the semester and we were still in the belmont, when scotty and aaron closed erev shabbat services with hey ya! everyone sang along, and it was particularly funny, because clearly, the song is not related to the shabbat service. at all.

more clearly i remember i think like the 10th or 13th shabbos, somewhere in there when scotty printed up 66 copies of message in a bottle, on lined paper, because we were always out of regular paper, and for a closing song, sang that. not everyone sang along. in fact, almost no one knew the song, and it was just very funny. although, i heard the song on the radio today, and could exactly picture myself nicely dressed for shabbos, sitting in those not quite comfortable green chairs, on that rug that was far from flat, cleanly shaven, and just as excited for the shnitzel as everyone else (minus the vegetarians). that's what i mean when i say good times

this was a particularly good weekend. beit cafe saturday night after shabbos, Eric's band was really really good, in addition to several other acts, and a few humorous ones, whether they were intentionally humorous or not is another thing, but funny nonetheless.

Goldens bridge is really far, no matter where you start driving from. but well worth it. to say the least. and when i'm there, i get to do some of my most favorite activities. wf subregional sunday day was quite fun, eating all the israeli foods and such that we made, and then driving back into the city later that i should have, with jill ([info]punkgirlie143), ivy ([info]xx_poisonivy_xx) and emma ([info]every1luvsme86). but i was amazed, because i found a parking spot that was totally legit and not metered only a few blocks from times square, which amazing, any time of day or night. and then i got to the subliminal show like 20 minutes before it started! and it was awesome. it was high quality music, almost entirely in hebrew, and one of my favorite thing about rap shows, a large amount of people on stage, with a high energy. i'll put up pictures soon. the violinist from like every rap album ever that used a violin in a beat was there, and was sick and remedy from wu-tang was there, kinda random, but whatever. and then i met up with 4 EIE kids who i couldn't find during most of the show, so that was a good deal. and i got a t-shirt, which is fun. i just need the new CD, they sang quite a few of the new songs which were pretty good.

oh, and just in case )

this past weekend was awesome. well, parts of it were. and it was well timed. i got to see nfty kids in a non-nfty environment, which is always nice, and sam and i made memories that will be placed in the scrapbook of life, and i finally got one of my life goals out of the way kinda, and it was awesome. and i talked to amnon at prozdor, and ideally, he'll work something out for the subliminal show. and then it was a family event held at my cousin ira's catering hall, inside a synagogue called temple shalom. i don't think it gets too much more jewish. oh, and it was in flatbush, brooklyn. and while usually those types of things are kinda awkward, this one went well, and as with all the events held at that place, the food was amazing. like beyond incredible, and kosher, my type of event.
